The factory catalytic converter is made up of catalyst material formed into \"honeycomb\" weaves. Exhaust gas must pass through these tiny \"honeycomb\" weaves on their way to the exhaust system thus causing a major exhaust flow restriction. It also causes turbulence after the catalytic converter which causes the exhaust flow to slow down (which increases restriction). By replacing the factory downpipe\/catalytic converter with our Sports Series 4\" High Flow Metallic Catted Downpipe, more power is unleashed! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe factory catalytic uses a 600 cell ceramic core. What the 600 cells means is that per every inch, there are 600 \"cells\" that the exhaust gas must pass through. We use a 200 cell metallic core. By having less cells per square inch, these individual \"cells\" are bigger in size thus allowing exhaust gas to pass through it more easily. Thus, the lower the cell count, the higher the flow. Higher flow = more power, faster turbo spool up (less turbocharger lag) and better throttle response. Bottom line, faster. The benefits of a metallic catalytic converter vs a ceramic like the factory is that it can take higher temperatures and is more durable (last longer). They are also lighter than their ceramic counterparts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur Competition Series Catless Downpipes is constructed out of 100% 304 grade stainless steel, even down to the included hardware. Utilizing mandrel bent tubing, each downpipe is 100% TIG welded by our in-house fabricators and built in the USA.  \u003cspan\u003eThe factory wastegate outlet utilizes a V-Band flange which we have duplicated and CNC machined cut out of billet 304 stainless steel. Stainless Steel CNC machined O2 sensor and laser cut brackets are TIG welded using stainless steel rods. The O2 sensor is positioned at the factory location.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe factory turbocharger outlet has an iregular oval outlet as well as a very tight first turn.  Reducing backpressure right at the turbocharger outlet is very critical for reducing turbocharger lag and a faster spoil up of the turbocharger.  Due to the tight first bend, we felt we could not keep the correct shape to reduce restriction with regular tubing.  Even the factory downpipe utilizes a formed piece instead of tubing.  Thus, we decided to cast form stainless steel to produce the eact shape needed to maintain a smooth transition on the first turn.  While this would dramatically increase development costs, we followed our company motto, \"Performance, no Compromise\" to offer you a much superior performance product.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSince the outlet of the turbocharger is around 4\", we utilize 4\" stainless steel tubing which using long transitions to reduce the size to 3\" to match up with our 3\" Evolution Racewerks Mid Pipes (factory is 2.5\").  \u003c\/span\u003eThese longer transitions allow the exhaust gas time to smoothly transition from the larger piping to the smaller. \u003cspan\u003eThis also allows us to keep a true 3\" size through to our Evolution Racewerks 3\" Mid Pipes as the factory mid pipes are 2.5\".  Also, since we utilize a larger 4\" pipe right after the turbocharger, turbo backpressure is significantly reduced. This results in less exhaust turbulence and backpressure which again improves throttle response and increase turbocharger spool times (less turbocharger lag). \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOur downpipes are designed to fit perfectly with either the factory exhaust system or your aftermarket exhaust system. The ceramic coating also adds additional corrosion resistance. We utilize the best ceramic coating possible. Our thermal coating can resist up to 2000F of heat.
